Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Makenna Schibler is a fiber artist working under the fine arts track as a fourth year student at Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design. Her work harbors a compilation of many techniques existing in the fiber art practice. Her most notable works utilize freeform crochet to create murals of images that brand her experiences relating to her life. She exercises the irony of utility in the realm of textiles with a painterly approach to her pieces. By introducing scale into her pieces, the work becomes interactive allowing the viewer to step further away to fully visualize the woven image but to also look closer to see the intense detail of the crochet. In her current practice, Schibler has tested her fibrous background with tufting, quiltmaking, knitting and sewing.
